"Warlock drove down to Lake Michigan, only a few miles from any farmhouse on the hilly Leelanau Peninsula. It was one of those rare lambent, umbrous mornings when the still warm air was full of green haze, and presented the illusion that one lived in a fairy tale."

| Leelanau Information
Welcome to the Leelanau Peninsula.
Leelanau is a land blessed with beauty. Water. Sand. Sun. Forests. And in winter, glorious lake effect snow. Lake Michigan is a majestic presence. The inland lakes are clear, crystal blue. Thick forests blanket glacial ridges. And a promising procession of cherry trees and grape vines adorn the hillsides.
Leelanau is a place that seems to always have inspired people. We have had, and still have, our share of writers, artists, and photographers. Most notably, literary giant Jim Harrison. Kurt Luedtke, wrote the screenplay Out of Africa here. Authors Christine Byron and Tom Wilson have released a marvelous new book, Vintage Views of Leelanau County. You'll read excerpts from their book in this section.
Few photographers have captured the images of Leelanau better than the late Dr. Ted Cline, Photair Inc., and Dietrich Floeter. Many of their photos appear here too. And like the great masters, painter Fred Petroskey captures on canvas, people who live on this peninsula.
In this section I've included information about Leelanau that I hope you find interesting and enjoyable. I hope it helps to give you a sense of the place.
